Poem on Gender Violence

How a woman is treated by not only the males of the society but also by the females, where she is blamed for the violence inflicted upon her by the society, men and their thinking.

Poem on Gender Violence

No, you were wrong!
When I wore jeans to college,
I was harassed on the first day,
Touched on the second day,
And,
Raped on the third day!
Yes, you were not wrong
My dear Boy,
Girls aren't supposed to wear such clothes!

When I decided to work,
I was restricted on the first day,
Taunted on the second day,
And,
Beaten to sit at home on the third day!

Yes, you were not wrong
My dear boy,
Women aren't supposed to work, they are born to manage homes.

When I argued with you at the work place,
I was looked with contempt on the first day,
Demoted on the second day,
And,
Fired on the third day!
Yes, you were not wrong,
My dear boy,
Women aren't supposed to match their eye levels with men!

When I refused to give dowry to you,
I was troubled on the first day,
Beaten Up by belts on the second day,
And,
Burnt alive on the third day!

Yes, You were not wrong
My dear boy
Women are supposed to pay back to us for keeping her at our house.

When I rejected your proposal,
I was followed on the first day,
Sent dirty messages on the second day,
And,
Thrown acid on my face on the third day!

Yes, you were not wrong
My dear boy,
How can that girl refuse to your proposal!

When I came in my mother's tummy,
My mother was tortured on the first day,
Given abortion pills on the second day,
And,
Forcefully performed female foeticide on the third day!

Yes, you were not wrong,
My dear boy,
First child should be a boy, girl can come anytime!

NO! NO!  NO!
YOU WERE always wrong when you did these things!
Rise above, people!
Rise above such thoughts!
MY DEAR GIRLS,
You are free,
You are free to live the way you want,
The way you feel!

Thank you!
